Chess is played on a standard 8×8 board that is divided into two sides (or “queens”) and each player has a set of 16 “pieces” (or “pawns”) to move around the board. The object of the game is to move your pieces to the opposing side’s “queen” (the “king”) and then “home” your pieces to the “home” (or “queen”) square. Once a “queen” is home, it is taken, and the game is won.
The game is extremely simple to play, even for children. Every move in chess is an attempt to either move a piece to the “queen” square, or “home” your “queen” pieces.
